The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has released a special song for the Flames ahead of tomorrow’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) group B qualifier against Comoros at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The song’s lyrics go like:

Timu ya Flames ife timayikondaaa!!!/ Inu ma player tachilimikani/ Inu ma striker tachilimikani/ kuchinya zigoliii!!!/Pa midfield gawani umodziumodzi/Tikunena umodziumodzi/Tikumva Kukoma…”

“Kuponderana/Umodziumodzi/Malawi!!!/Kupatsirana/ Dada!!!/Ife kumva Kukoma/Awo kumva kuwawa/Malawi!!”

Dubbed The Flames, the song aims at mobilising patriotic support for the national team among soccer lovers and motivating the players to play classic football while salivating for goals, according to FAM commercial and marketing director Limbani Matola.

“It is very important that as Malawi plays against Comoros this Saturday, national team players should be in high spirit and have full confidence that the whole nation is behind them. Morale is everything in football hence the song,” he said.

Matola composed the song, which was produced by Steve Meleka of M-Studios in Chilobwe, Blantyre.

He said McDonald Kachingwe did the vocal compositition and voicing while George Misinde, Peter Phiri, Joseph Buleya and Victor Mussa handled the backing vocals.

Featuring football commentary voice of Times Radio’s Williams Gondwa, the 1:41 minutes track encourages the midfielders to play entertaining tick-tack kind of football and pass the ball to the strikers to finish the job.
